Have you made those New Years Resolutions yet?

Firstly, Happy New Year!
A New Year to a New You?
Please tell me you haven’t fallen in to the ‘new year resolution’ trap?  You will probably see email after email, or new year promos playing on the resolution idea…why?
because people fall for it every time…and people fail every time, which is why the marketers’ and advertisers love it.
Well, I’m going to be a little bit in your face (hope you don’t mind) and do the opposite – don’t make resolutions!! Well, not the kind that most people make.
For those of you that want some help focussing on some personal goals, here are some quick points:
Do you remember the definition of insanity…? doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  Yet that’s what many people do with resolutions.
Although, at Jamie Lloyd Health and Fitness we don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, we do believe in setting compelling, emotional, realistic and rewarding goals that contribute to creating positive HABITS.
You see, resolutions usually involve a major change in the way people live or involve huge blanket statements about themselves.  People seem to love the idea of a complete overhaul or a “makeover” (think of all those TV shows) or a ‘fresh start’!
Unfortunately you are just setting yourself up for failure because overwhelming life changes are not given the focus they need to create long term HABITS.  This is key.
So what do you do?
Well, these 3 steps will help:
1 – See a bigger picture
You will not be motivated or inspired to change if you do not have a compelling positive vision.
2 – Develop a life plan, not a resolution plan.
Include all different aspects of your life as one will affect the other and creating balance in them all is the real way to feel fulfilled.
3 – Get specific
Pick a couple of areas and focus on those for 4-6 weeks until solid habits have been formed in that goal are.  Then, add another, and another… and work through the year like that.
If you follow that for a whole year you will be amazed by what is possible and what you will achieve.
Here’s to a successful ‘none resolution based’  2014

BNI Nightingale Christmas do

We had a lovely evening sharing drinks and stories with a light buffet down at The Grove in Balham last Friday.

Lynn was kind enough to organise a Christmas raffle, the prize of a hamper was won by the lucky Simon who can be seen above looking like a child who just found Santa stuck in his chimney!

Seasons greetings and best wishes for the New Year to all our members and visitors. Let us hope for an even more successful and prosperous 2014 for everyone.

Taken for Granted

Houses, cottages, flats, apartments, maisonettes, studios, detached, semi, terraced – these are terms we as estate agents hear every day of our lives. They are the lifeblood of our business, but the common theme is they all represent the concept of “home”.

We are privileged to be a nation of homeowners. Property is right up there with the weather when it comes to conversation fodder, especially this year! We can’t get enough of it, along with the perceived personal security offered by bricks and mortar that has long been a creator of wealth.

Either way, we are all the lucky ones! Because whilst we have been focussing on what to buy or where to rent, most of us have been unaware of, forgotten, or one has to admit, ignored, the plight of the ever-increasing number of homeless people. Those who have been dealt a raw deal in life, and to whom house prices are irrelevant. As are en-suite bathrooms, choice of carpets, views from the bedroom, quality of kitchen fittings, proximity to the station, size of garden or a host of other attributes that we tend to take for granted.

Homelessness has many causes, such as family breakdown, redundancy, repossession, a criminal past, or even people who have represented their country in the armed forces but struggle to settle into civilian life. Each of these is a tragedy in its own right that is compounded further by homelessness.

This article is not an appeal for money. It is simply a reminder about our priorities, and to think of those who don’t share the simple pleasures we take for granted, such as changing into something comfortable after work, watching TV on the sofa with our loved ones, enjoying a meal with friends, or simply getting into a cosy bed at night.

At this time of year especially, let’s remember those who don’t have the luxury of a roof over their heads.

Fix your IT problems today

I just want to thank Pierre and Finc IT for resolving a few IT issues. Being a busy fitness professional I find it difficult to keep up with regular updates on my laptop. I called on Pierre as my e mail server was becoming very slow. He quickly came to the rescue! He took my lap top away as he had to check the laptop over for a few technical issues.
I was very impressed with the professionalism and the exceptional service you provided in cleaning my laptop up and returning it on time!
More recently I have also called upon Pierre to fix a few e mail issues. As I am in transition of changing my website and rebranding a few products, Pierre quickly came up with some great solutions and ideas.
He set up a landing page for me in minutes and gave me some new e mail addresses which linked to my new websites.
You have certainly given me a headache-free experience. Your knowledge and experience on all things IT is outstanding!
I can’t thank you enough. I will certainly be using you on a more regular basis and have no hesitation in recommending Finc IT for all your IT solutions!
